“Yellow Rose”: the First Film by a Filipina American Director to Open LA Asian Pacific Film Festival!

Fil-Am Diane Paragas’ movie “Yellow Rose”  is set to premiere and open the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) this coming May 2.

Yellow Rose tells the story of Rose, an undocumented 17 year old Filipina, that dream to leave her small Texas town to pursue her country music dreams. Her world is shattered when her mom suddenly gets picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The girl, facing this new realty, is forced to flee the scene and embarks on a journey of self-discovery as she searches for a new home in the honky tonk world of Austin, Texas.

Diane Paragas is a documentary and narrative film and commercial director. She is best known for the 2012 film Brooklyn Boheme about the African Arts movement that launched the careers of Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Branford Marsalis, Rosie Perez to name a few.

Yellow Rose features Tony Award-winning actress and Broadway icon Lea Salonga and Tony Award nominee Eva Noblezada. Joining Salonga and Noblezada are Liam Booth, Princess Punzalan (Mula Sa Puso), Gustavo Gomez (The Walking Dead), Libby Villari (Boyhood), and country music star Dale Watson.

The 35th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival will be happening on May 2 – May 10, 2019 and is considered a key highlight of the annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month activities.
