We chose Vodka as a single because we noticed that the crowd reaction was always positive when the song was played during our sets. Vodka was originally written in 3⁄4 time with a swung feel…kind of like a drunk person walking (laughs).
But during a rehearsal, our drummer Christian started playing something upbeat then Brennan started improvising with the rhythm guitar parts of Vodka. The rest of the band followed and that led to the arrangement that you hear now.
The use of percussion in this arrangement of the song is something that delighted us. It was influenced by Latin percussive instruments such as the castanets, also known as clackers or palillos, which you usually hear in flamenco music.
