Metro Manila Galleries will celebrate International Museum Day on and around 18 May.

The theme for 2018 is “Hyperconnected museums: New approaches, new publics”.

The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that:

“Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”

Here are the Museums in Metro Manila that will celebrate International Museum Day:

The National Museum of the Philippines

The National Museum celebrates International Museum Day 2018 with the opening of the National Museum of Natural History.

On May 18, the National Museum opens to the public its newest museum as well as all its museums in Manila and all throughout the country.

You can view the permanent and special exhibitions and taking advantage of their free guided tours.

Yuchengco Museum

The museum collections includes, among many other celebrated visual artists, three masters of the brush who celebrate the Filipino way of life, history, and myths with compelling images in their unique styles:

Juan Luna, Fernando C. Amorsolo and Carlos “Botong” Francisco

You can also experience Tony Gonzales and Tes Pasola’ SUSPENDED GARDEN, a favorite of visitors to the museum.

Ateneo Art Gallery

In celebration of International Museum Day on May 18, the Ateneo Art Gallery brings you Lost Frames XIII: Screening + Talk.

Lyra Garcellano, Alvin Zafra, Vic Balanon, Derek Tumala, and Josephine Turralba will join for a dialogue on possible contextualizations of moving images in their varied forms, the social space they occupy with viewers, and how these untangle a web of transactions and power dynamics in their production and presentation.

Ayala Museum

Ayala Museum  will celebrate International Museum Day on May 20th!

From 3pm til 5pm you can join the FUJIFILM INSTAX WORKSHOP where you will Create Instax Paper Lanterns with Veronica Cosio (3PM-5PM) and from 5PM to 6PM there will be ALWIN REAMILLO’ ARTIST TALK: The Bayanihan Hopping Spirit House’s journey from Sydney to Manila.

Ayala Museum’s current changing exhibits – Erwin Wurm’s One Minute Sculptures and Alwin Reamillo’s Bayanihan Hopping Spirit House – showcase new approaches to art.

Also featured are the long-standing permanent collections – Gold of Ancestors, the Dioramas of Philippine History, A Millennium of Contact, Art and the Order of Nature, and Fernando Zobel.

Enjoy food and drinks from Paris Delice, Kape Tayo, and Elait!

Museo Pambata

Museo Pambata is the first children’s interactive museum in the Philippines and its mission is to strengthen the knowledge, values, and cultural identity of Filipino children through its advocacy programs providing innovative learning experiences.

FREE ADMISSION for all walk-in visitors on May 18, 2018.  Admission hours are from 9 AM to 5 PM.
