Mynila Meets Treasure Hunter Jodinand – The Mind Behind Glorious Dias
Mynila Meets Treasure Hunter Jodinand – The Mind Behind Glorious Dias
It’s always inspiring meeting people who try their best to gather the local community into something great: Jodinand Aguillon is creating a hub to support local designers and revive Filipino heritage with Hollow Block and Glorious Dias
Hollow Block is a project by Pineapple Lab which hosts local designers, an in-house collection of Filipino vintage clothes, a ready-to-wear selection and Artist-in-Residence aiming to promote female entrepreneurship.
Jodinand Aguillon describes himself as a treasure hunter, and if you check the vintage collection available at Glorious Dias, you will definitely see this with your own eyes: he accurately researches for barongs, vintage silks and pinya dresses, Filipinianas, sequinned dresses & blouses, then washes all the pieces by hand. And if you are looking for something more easy you will find also a ready-to-wear selection!
He was initially going to call it Pakipot, “hard to get” in Tagalog but then opted for Glorious Dias: a celebration of Filipino heritage and a wordplay to honor Gloria Diaz, the first Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown in 1969.
Jodinand also aims to give space for other local vintage collectors and sellers who only sell online or on IG: last September the first Palma Sunday took place along Palma St. with a walkable outdoor shop/market to allow the local community to enjoy the neighborhood.
The initial concept behind Glorious Dias was to to invite one a local designer at time for a specific period but then, instead of replacing them with new designers they decided to invite and add more to the Glorious Dias family.
