November 8, 2018 Music & Culture
Launched in November 2017, Komura; is an independent book fair that aims to explore creative ways to make and experience a book and aims to push the boundaries of storytelling and explore new ways to enjoy literature. It is housed in the artsy compound of La Fuerza Makati – Warehouse Eight.
After a few months, it has evolved and has spawned new programs that seek to provide holistic support for the readers and storytellers community:
Komura; Studio (talks and workshop), Pixel (tech-based narrative and media), Creators Grant (funding for creators), Book Fair & Playground (a marketplace for local literature, press, zines and artists) and Directory (online database of independent and specialty creators, shops, press and studio in the Philippines).
Very inspiring and interesting talks will be happening during the next edition of Komura; Studio happening on November 24th:
Comics (Manix Abrera), Virtual reality (Christopher David), Printmaking (Malcolm Smith), Gaming (Niel Dagondon), Design & Stickers (Ian Quimbo), Independent artist (Rommel Joson), Artbooks (Ringo Bunoan), Literature (Kooky Tuason) and Press & design (Kelley Cheng)
Behind Komura; Studio is Kwago: a Manila-based independent bookstore that aims to provide an alternative learning platform for local independent publishers, writers and creatives to nurture and grow their craft, and reach a wider audience both here and abroad. Its vision: to have a reading nook in every Filipino home; a smarter and more creative Philippines.
