To unveil the limited-edition collection, Johnnie Walker recently held Party Like It’s 19XX: The Johnnie Walker Vintage Design Pack Collection Launch. Held last July, premium jazz bar Top of the Alpha was transformed into a mishmash of different decades with drinks and entertainment from vintage to future, serving a taste of the nightlife of eras past.
Welcomed by the theatrics of flairtenders at the first floor, guests turned up in their vintage-inspired best, before heading to the Penthouse. At the top, the beautiful cacophony of a coat check attendant, a magician, and burlesque dancers were only the icing on top of the cake.
Skilled cocktail craftsmen, including Lester Ligon and David Abalayan, the Diageo Reserve World Class Philippine Bartenders of the Year 2018 and 2019, manned the 4 bars for the night.
They served a whole gamut of quality drinks, from the classic juleps to the modern Nitro coffee-infused cocktails.
Of course, aside from fashion, nothing defines an era more than its music. August Wahh, CRWN, Jess Connelly, Emel Rowe and Sam Nicole delivered disco and indie beats, complementing the highlight of the night New York’s Studio 54’s former resident DJ Nicky Siano. Known for being one of the pioneers of the dance music scene, and a legend among music lovers all over the world, Siano has been working the DJ’s booth in all the hottest bars since the 1970s.

“The goal for tonight’s event was to seamlessly bring together the different eras” says Espineda.
“Seeing everyone donning clothes from significantly dissimilar periods, conversing and listening to music while enjoying Johnnie Walker, sparks a sense of nostalgia. Yet, at the same time, it’s a good confirmation that even when the brand’s been around for quite a while, it remains relevant and in style for today’s generation.”
For the limited-edition collection, the blends come in a unique packaging design inspired by the ‘20s, ‘70s, ‘90s, and late 2010s respectively – the Brand’s nod to the many generations that have loved and enjoyed Johnnie Walker.
From its humble beginnings in a small grocer store in Scotland, to its ubiquitous status as the #1 Scotch whisky in the world today, Johnnie Walker continues to be a well-loved brand of every generation. Spanning decades of art, fashion, and culture, the iconic Scotch maker proves that it is a drink that never goes out of style – a feat which it celebrates with the Johnnie Walker Vintage Design Pack Collection.
“Johnnie Walker has been doing a lot of progressive and modern things, the #JohnnieWeekend Series, the Johnnie Walker House, and the White Walker by Johnnie Walker bottle being just some of them,” shares Fatima Espineda, Marketing Manager for Culture and Advocacy of Diageo Philippines. “But despite all that, Johnnie Walker has never lost sight of its heritage, and that’s why we chose to celebrate it with the Vintage Design Pack Collection.”
The drink that never goes out of style
The stellar eras come to life in Johnnie Walker Red, Black, Double Black, and Gold Label Reserve. Johnnie Walker Red Label, aptly named the Pioneer Blend, takes its inspiration from the roaring ‘20s, an era known for its prolific oil painting. Cued by an era of opulence and strong attention to detail, the packaging delivers a work of art where the Striding Man dons a flashy red coat with ornate gold outfit accents. The 1970s was a huge era of change and newness, as more expressive and adventurous choices in fashion, movies, and music were introduced to the market. Johnnie Walker chooses to pay tribute to this special era with Johnnie Walker Black Label’s pop culture-inspired design. With its muted and subdued colors, one look at the box and our minds are taken back to the 1970s.
Meanwhile, Johnnie Walker Double Black stands in stark color contrast with the rest of the collection as it takes us back to the ‘90s – the TV and VHS era, and the climb towards the digital age. Showcasing modern technology in its earliest form, the Intense Blend’s package design features digital analog artifacts, reminding us of the beginnings of TV and computer use.
Symbolic of Johnnie Walker’s progressive spirit, the Scotch brand goes full circle with Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve’s minimalist look. Celebrating the present and the future, the 2019 packaging represents the modern aesthetic that is taking the world today.
The Johnnie Walker Vintage Design Pack Collection will be available until supplies last at PHP 659, PHP 1,399, PHP 1,599 & PHP 1,499 for Red, Black, Double Black, and Gold Label Reserve respectively, at all leading supermarkets nationwide.
