Everything You Need To Know About St. Patrick’s Day in Manila

Poblacion is about to turn into shamrock city! Get  your green attire on and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (Pinoy-style)!

When is St. Patrick’s Day?

This year, St. Patrick’s Day falls on Sunday, March 17, 2019 – but let’s be honest, we’re all going to be out on the Saturday!

What is St. Patrick’s Day?
The date supposedly marks the death of (yep, you guessed it!) St Patrick. Patrick’s Day occurs annually, he was Ireland’s most celebrated patron saint. St. Patrick is well-praised and celebrated for his missionary work and the subsequent arrival of Christianity in Ireland.

Do you know the story behind the Ireland and Shamrocks?
That’s down to him too! Apparently St Patrick used the three-leaved clover to describe the Holy Trinity to the majority pagan population of Ireland!

Times has changed, and I don’t think any of us need to run around with three-leaved clovers to do any convincing around here. Today St Patrick’s Day is a celebration of all things Irish and of course packed full of friendliness and let’s be honest – a fair bit of drinking.

Poblacion, Makati is where it’s at. But don’t sweat if you’re on the other side of the river there’s some great Irish Pubs there too!

Yes guys, remember St Patricks day actually falls on the Sunday. So after a long night on Saturday. Here’s a couple of great Irish produced films to enjoy your Paddy’s day a more chill way:

Brooklyn

Brooklyn (2015) was an intense romance – and if you’re still a little drunk I suggest to keep to the romance movies. An Irish immigrant lands in 1950s Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a romance with a local. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

From the Dark

The Irish horror is not for the faint hearted – From the Dark (2014), is a non-stop horror. Of misfortune and hidden past coming back to haunt the family of the house. If you want nightmares this is the movie for you.
