Moments Of Movement: Screening and Interactive Dance Experience

Event Admin: Mynila’s Choice

the workshop., Alfonzo St, Makati, Metro Manila, Philippines

07:00 PM

This self-produced series is made up of several mini series' filmmed in Singapore, The Philippines, Vancouver, Montreal and of course, Toronto.

This project draws upon Mark Valino's initial instinct as filmmaker to authentically capture a moment of beauty through the expression of movement in its most raw form, filming improvised performances in one shot. “Moments of Movement” is part of my journey as an artist and perfectionist to simply let go of control, surrender to the moment and create from a place of complete honesty, love and respect for the art forms and artists that I collaborate with, while showcasing the universal language of music and dance.

This freestyle dance video series of is about trying to capture that perfect moment between dancer, filmmaker, and surroundings as they connect through music. These one-of-a-kind interpretations are a form of self-expression for both dancer and filmmaker who both react to the music and each other.

The night will showcase many of last years most memorable and visually spectacular "Moments of Movement" as well as special new and never before seen moments accompanied by an artist talk with filmmaker and creator Valino, explaining the project and how it was created and evolved into what it is today along with some of the dancers that will be sharing their experience with the project. There will also be live performances by some special surprise guests to be named later and music curated by the one and only Hey Mr DJ (Dee Jae Paeste) accompanied by live projections. Food, drink and alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Plus: Immigrant Lessons by Joshua Ongcol and SOphia SOsa GAmboa - they will be performing their NEW Dance performance "NAIWALA"

"Naiwala" revolves around the journey of two young Filipino artists on a quet to revisit and reflect on their history. Fearlessly revisiting trauma, it is a journey both dark and nostalgic but always insightful and healing. Listen as they share their hearts to where they come from and where they are going. Josh a queer person of color and Sophia a Filipina born and raised, both 1st generation Canadians intersect to find what it means to come back.
