Set your sights as Philippine Contemporary Art’s latest up-and-comer, RV Basco, presents his first solo exhibit “Echoes of the Soul” on February 29, 2020 at Vongarde Art Gallery.
Landing Art+ Magazine's Cover Story (Issue #66), RV Basco's exhibit piece "January 13th" recalls stark images seen in the aftermath of the recent Taal eruption, when surrounding areas - including homes, trees, and animals - were blanketed in volcanic ash. The sight of ash-covered horses left near the Volcano Island lingered in Basco's mind and gave birth to this painting.
A recurring character in Basco's recent works is a boy in pajamas clutching a miniature house. In his melancholic expression, there is a sense of losing everything he holds dear, just as the Taal residents did.
The mystical world of children's books, mythology, and fables collide with reality to reveal an underlying truth in his fabulist compositions.
