BLUE SYAHI is a long standing Manila-based collaboration between CJ Wasu and Countryman Rick, in a World Fusion genre. The music combines elements of Jazz and characteristics of Indian Classical music, forming a framework for their free, personal expression.
This project and performance will include the shadow play artistry of Datu Arellano, as well as electronic soundscapes from instruments of his own creation.
Each of these 3 artists are often heard in other contexts, with many renown local and international musicians. Countryman and Datu performed last February at Limbo in a special collaboration with Dr. Royal Hartigan, which featured rhythms from an African-American tradition.
CJ is a master of the Indian percussive instrument, the tabla, and has interacted with Countryman musically for over 6 years, including a performance in the Philippines International Jazz Festival.
