Discover the untold war stories and secrets of this ancient walled city. In this must-do tour, we will combine a fully-guided itinerary with some reenactments to complete your World War II journey to the past.
You’ll walk the same historic streets and explore important sites that are interwoven in this citadel’s war narrative. Throughout the tour, your guide will be sharing Intramuros’ World War II history from its initial Japanese bombings in 1941 to its retaking and destruction in 1945.
Learn more about the dark, albeit important part of our history - the 29 terrifying days in 1945 that left 100,000 hapless, innocent civilians burned, bayoneted, beheaded, raped, and eviscerated by the Japanese forces. This atrocious battle, now known as the Battle of Manila was the worst urban battle of the Pacific, and razed our beloved city to the ground. When the guns finally fell silent, Manila – the Pearl of the Orient - was reduced to rubble and ruin.
Special guest for March 14 tour date will be James Scott, author of “Rampage; MacArthur, Yamashita and the Battle of Manila.”
