Breaking Bread: the Food & Art Community Gathering

Mynila Team July 16, 2019 Food & Drink

Breaking Bread is a food & art community gathering, the first of a dinners series by Bao Bar Poblacion.

Trisha Katipunan, managing partner and culinary director of Bao Bar, felt the need to unite her increasing interest in food installation and hosting private dinners for friends: it eventually morphed into an inclusive community-driven platform through Bao Bar (the kitchen partner of Dulo MNL) and the collaboration between creatives and makers in the community.

“Breaking Bread is a communal dinner gathering where the entire menu is served family style, no plated dishes! We made sure that our menu is vegetarian, vegan, and pescatarian friendly to cater to a larger demographic.

Our community dinners serve as an exercise in making meaningful experiences and conversations around the dinner table. Our goal is to foster a culture of sharing, from playful riposte to social discussions, collaborative exchanges, and that mountain of coconut turmeric rice!

They’re also tapping Kia Opeda (formerly of Happy Paradise in HK and OTO, now bar consultant at Limbo) to come in as guest bartender for the night, stylist Melvin Mojica and Sean Bautista (of Tetsuo and Transit Store) to lay out the tunes, and artists Cru Camara, Jem Magbanua to put together a capsule group art exhibit as an extension of the dinner gathering. There will also be an edible art installation available for tasting.
